For my senior thesis project I decided to create a concept for an online board game. I find cryptids and other creatures in folklore very fascinating so I made them the subject of the game. The basic premise is that the users play as cryptid hunters and place cameras around the board to try and get the most evidence on the cryptid first. Everything in this project is conceptualized to be virtual, so the cards, board games and pieces are virtual. The deliverables for this project include sixteen virtual cards, a promotional webpage, and a tutorial video. I wanted to make the game feel very mystical and fairy tale-like, so I illustrated everything in a playful style and named the game Cryptids in the Forest.

There are sixteen cards in this game, eight cryptids and eight cryptid hunters. Each game there is one randomly chosen cryptid from this deck who you will be trying to find evidence on. The cryptid cards have a green border. The top right corner of the cryptid card indicates how fast the cryptid is, how many spaces it can move per round.
The cryptid hunter cards are who the user plays as, this is randomly selected for the user each game. The cryptid hunter cards have a pink border, and the symbol at the top right represents the piece the user moves around the board. Each card features a short description of the cryptid or character.
Using Adobe Xd I prototyped a web page to promote the game and provide information about it. The web page shows all the cards and contains the tutorial video and a quick demo of how someone's turn would look.
If you're on desktop the Xd prototype is below, the video is separate below the prototype. I made the video in Adobe After Effects after illustrating all of the assets. I continued the mystical, playful style with my music choice.
